National Climate Action Symposium 2026

The National Climate Action Symposium 2026, organized by the Society of Public Health Engineers Nepal (SOPHEN) on World Environment Day, brought together experts, policymakers, and practitioners to explore the critical intersection of climate change, water security, and sustainable development in Nepal. Held at Hotel Malla in Kathmandu, the symposium featured expert presentations and a concluding panel discussion, highlighting Nepal’s vulnerability to climate impacts, including glacial melt and extreme weather events, despite its negligible contribution to global emissions.

A key focus of the symposium was the urgent need for integrated, climate-resilient, and adequately financed Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) systems. The event also provided an important platform for sharing the outcomes of the Global South WASH Financing and Sustainability Conference 2026, particularly the Kathmandu Declaration, which outlined priorities for advancing sustainable and climate-resilient WASH financing.

THALaya supported the symposium through technical assistance and multimedia production, contributing to the smooth delivery and documentation of the event. The symposium concluded with a call for stronger policy implementation, increased access to climate finance, and greater collaboration across stakeholders to strengthen Nepal’s water security and climate resilience.
